We are uniquely placed in the UAE legal services market to assist clients who seek to invest or do business in Africa. Our Dubai practice is the regional office of ALN (Africa Legal Network). ALN is an alliance of top tier independent African corporate/commercial law firms.  Additionally, some of our partners are from Africa and have had significant transactional experience in Africa prior to moving to the UAE. Most of our lawyers have had actual transactional experience on African assignments.

Through our affiliation with ALN, we are able to offer comprehensive transactional and advisory capabilities across many countries in sub-Saharan Africa. We are unique in the UAE for being the only firm able to offer real “on-the-ground” expertise and knowledge in cross-border transactions relating to sub-Saharan African countries. We are able to deploy the extensive reach and local knowledge of ALN in Africa in order to deliver seamless advice and support to clients investing or conducting business in Africa. We understand the commercial risks and taxation considerations for doing business in sub-Saharan Africa and apply our local knowledge and capabilities to assist clients in navigating these risks.

We are routinely called upon by clients to co-ordinate transactions or advisory assignments across multiple jurisdictions in Africa, including acquisition and disposal transactions and group lending arrangements. We assist clients in dealing with regulatory matters such as obtaining competition clearances for African transactions at domestic (in country) and regional (e.g. COMESA Competition Commission) levels. We  routinely act for Africa-based businesses and corporations seeking to establish branches, subsidiaries or holding companies in the UAE free zones, including in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA) and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).

We have also advised a number of banks undertaking trade finance arrangements with various African commodities businesses which have branches/subsidiaries in the UAE as well as regional banks seeking to establish sharia-compliant banking services business in sub-Saharan Africa.

Some of the industry sectors in Africa in which we have advised clients include:
